"We have never offered €1 Billion" - Adidas Deny Record-Breaking Germany Kit Deal Offer

Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer disclaimed that the German brand has offered €1 billion to extend the contract with the German national football team in a 10-years contract.

In early September 2015, German newspaper BILD reported that Adidas is set to sign a record-breaking kit deal to renew their current deal with the reigning World Cup champions, which expires in 2018.

Germany x Adidas.

Herbert Hainer announced that he believes that the contract negotiations between the German Football Federation (DFB) and Adidas would be completed within six months. This would be necessary as it takes at least 18 months to design and produce the new Germany 2018 World Cup Kits.

"We've never offered the German Football Federation one billion Euro. This is a sum which is 'leaked' to influence things", clarified Adidas CEO Hainer.

"It's logical that we want to continue our decade-long partnership with the German Football Federation. We have been and are partners in good and bad times. The German national football team and Adidas just belong together", said Hainer.

"It's logical that a contract must makes sense for both parties. We rate the price-performance ratio of every club, federation and athlete. How much attention and sales gives us a partnership? It's the same procedure for the DFB. We won't retain the German national team at any costs. There is an pain threshold, which is defined internally", Hainer continued.

He also said that smaller sportswear manufacturers such as Under Armour and Puma have no chance to supply the kits for the German national team. Therefore, it would be only a duel between US-giant Nike and Adidas that determines who will make the Germany Jerseys from 2018.
