La Liga Announce New EA Sports Sock Sponsorship Deal + 4-Year Partnership Extension

Update 27/11/15: La Liga yesterday officially announced that they will extend their partnership agreement with EA Sports for the next four years, while they also announced that as part of the agreement "EA SPORTS branding will be visible on footballers' socks of 14 teams of Liga BBVA through the innovative advertising support of Sockatyes".

Several La Liga teams, most importantly Atlético Madrid, have already debuted a new EA Sports sponsorships via the 'Sockatyes' sock advertising introduced at the end of last season last weekend.

Robert Wadsworth, Business Affairs International at EA Sports, said, "At EA SPORTS we are delighted to extend our partnership with LaLiga, one of the most prestigious football leagues in the world. Our initiatives will enable us to create a deeper connection with LaLiga fan base and allow our FIFA franchise to continue delivering the most authentic and innovative experiences to all the players around the globe".

EA Sports Takes Over La Liga Sockatyes Sponsorship

Incidentally, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer was one of the first clients to make use of the new sponsorship possibility, and now its big rival EA Sports FIFA has seized the opportunity. In the first few rounds of the 2015-16 season, participating teams sported a generic Sockatyes logo on the socks.

Atlético, interestingly, didn't fully participate, with many players putting tape over the EA Sports advertising space.

The Sockatyes technology is applied to the socks supplied by the respective teams' technical sponsors, and, as we summed up in April, it's really just another way to increase sponsorship revenue for the involved clubs.
