FC Barcelona legend Carles Puyol celebrates his 39th birthday today. We take a look at the football boots worn by Puyol during his career to honor a player who lifted more titles than any other Barcelona captain - 6 Leagues, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Copes, 2 World Club Cups, 2 European and 6 Spanish Super Cups - and who both won the World Cup and the Euro with Spain.

Puyol Makes First Team Debut Wearing First-Ever Nike Mercurial Boots

Aged 21, Carles Puyol made his first official match for his youth club Barcelona on October 2 1999. The game was a league game away to Valladolid and coach Louis van Gaal brought him on at right back as a sub for Simao on 56 minutes, with Carles Puyol wearing the original black and white Nike Mercurial soccer cleat that was released in the same year.

Puyol Joins Mizuno Soon After First Team Debut

Following Puyol's first official matches and great performances, the Catalan legend was signed by Japanese brand Mizuno. Carles Puyol switched to the brand's famous Mizuno Morelia football boot, which he should wear in the following years.

Puyol Leaves Mizuno to Join Nike and To Wear Total 90 Boots

Just three years after he signed a contract with Mizuno, Carles Puyol already said goodbye to the Japanese brand forever to join Barcelona's kit supplier Nike. He should wear no other football boots than those made by the US giant for the rest of his career.

However, while most of us remember Carles Puyol as a face of the Nike Tiempo football boots, the FC Barcelona center back did not witch to the Nike Tiempo back then but to the iconic second-gen Nike Total 90 football boots. He should wear and headline Nike's power boot in the following years together with players such as Wayne Rooney.

Puyol Makes Tiempo Switch

In late 2008, Carles Puyol made the switch from the Nike Total 90 to the Nike Tiempo soccer boot. The legendary defender should win two Champions League titles, one Euro, one World Cup as well as several Spanish league and cup titles wearing Nike's modern heritage boot.

Puyol made his last match for Barcelona in 2014 wearing the Nike Tiempo Legend V football boot.
