According to the Daily Mail, the decision has been taken for commercial reasons because color clashes with recent away opponents — France , Scotland and Lithuania — mean the blue change strip has been worn far less than expected, and the FA want to be fair to fans who have purchased the replica shirt.

However, England's decision also allows Germany to debut their brand-new 2018 World Cup home shirt instead of being forced to use their old Euro 2016 away kit, so it rather looks like a joint decision of both federations.

An FA spokesman said: "This will give England a chance to showcase their away kit before returning to traditional white colors for the visit of Brazil on November 14."

Interestingly, England already wore their away strip at home against Germany in 2000. England have not worn an away kit at Wembley since Egypt's visit in 2010.
