What Number Will Philippe Coutinho Wear?

Six days ago, FC Barcelona officially announced the signing of Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho for a sum of £145m. The Brazilian was presented without a number, and the club has still not revealed which number the midfielder will get. We take a look at what are the shirt number options for the 25-year.

Coutinho wore 10 at Liverpool, but that number is obtained by Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Philippe Coutinho to Become Barça's New No 7 or No 14 - No Number Above 25 Allowed

Currently, it seems most likely that Philippe Coutinho will take the number seven shirt at Barcelona vacated by Arda Turan. The number 7 was donned by Pep Guardiola during his playing days at the Camp Nou and Portuguese Luis Figo also wore the No 7 Barcelona shirt (reports in Spain claim the former Reds midfielder would certainly love to wear the iconic shirt, which is the same number he wore when he was at Inter Milan).

The second option is that Philippe Coutinho will get shirt number 14 that is currently occupied by Javier Mascherano, who could complete a move to China. The No 14 shirt was worn by legendary Johan Cruyff.

The third and last option would be that Coutinho would take Barcelona's vacant number 24. In Spain, every first team player needs to get a number between 1 and 25 - teams are not allowed to register more than 25 first team players.
