Horrific? Saudi Arabia Founds New Team Neom SC, Liquidates Old Club From Different City

Saudi Arabia aims to become a household name in football. With it, the state's public investment found has bought several older top players for the league, including Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Sadio Mane. But that's not all - Saudi Arabia is also founding new teams.

Saudi Arabia Founds 4 New Teams, Liquidates 4 Others

In early June 2023, it was announced that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport transferred the ownership of four clubs - which practically means that four teams are liquidated. Al-Qadisiyah goes to ARAMCO, Al-Diriyah to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, Al-Ula to the Royal Commission for Al Ula, and Al-Suqoor to Neom.

The Neom team is the first to have announced their logo, name, and first kit. We expect the three others to follow soon.

Neom City - Saudi Arabia's 500 Billion Dollar City Project

Neom is a futuristic city being built in Saudi Arabia, with an estimated cost of $500 billion. Of course, this city also needs a sports team. However, instead of creating a new team from scratch, the Saudi government decided to acquire the license of an existing team - Al-Suqoor, which played in the third division.

Neom SC Announced

The new Neom sports team is called Neom Sports Club. The club was formerly known as Al Suqor Club.

The new Neom SC logo is rather lame and does not give the team a unique identity. Instead, it's just the Neom logo with an S.C. added at the bottom.

Neom SC Football Kit

The first Neom SC kit is orange-red with a white supplier logo. The unique element is an all-over pattern inspired by the shape of the Neom logo - it still looks more like a non-name sports shirt than a football kit.

The Neom Sports Club already competes in 13 different sports, including football, basketball, martial arts and table tennis, with teams and sessions available for men, women and children of all ages. Moaath Alohali has been named CEO of the club, after leaving his tenure as CEO of Saudi Pro League team, Al Ettifaq.

According to the official press releases, Neom SC "wants to expand its expertise and grow as a football club. The Neom project aims to support local Saudi talent as it becomes a global hub for sports" - we expect some famous players to play for Neom by 2030.
