No More Ajax Cape Town: All-New Cape Town Spurs FC Launched

South African Premier Soccer League (first division) club Cape Town Spurs have officially launched their new logo, after their application to rename the club from Ajax Cape Town was approved by the Premier Soccer League.

"50 years of history. Rise from the ashes. Deliberately facing forward and not looking backwards any longer. The time of the Warrior has come," the statement read.

Ajax Cape Town was formed in 1999 via the amalgamation of two Cape Town-based teams, Seven Stars and Cape Town Spurs, as AFC Ajax expanded their worldwide talent-feeder network to South Africa. Now Cape Town Spurs have been reborn with Ajax selling their majority 51% shares.

Ajax Cape Town Becomes Cape Town Spurs

The new Cape Town Spurs logo boasts a completely different look than the previous crest, which was the same as Ajax's except of the text.

However, despite being renamed to Cape Town Spurs, the Ajax again takes the center stage of the logo. It boasts a modern illustrated head of the mythical Greek warrior Ajax, as well as the bold lettering "Cape Town Spurs".

Ajax derives from the Greek Aias (alas). The name is borne in Greek mythology by two Greeks renowned for their valor and prowess. Ajax Telamon was a strong and brave warrior.

Color-wise, Cape Town Spurs FC has again chosen red and white as their colors.

Original Cape Town Spurs
