Just a Sock? First Laceless Adidas Prototype Boots Revealed
Update 13/02/2016: A new picture of the already infamous Adidas Sock Prototype 'Boots' has emerged (via @hitthatball). It shows what's the basic concept of Adidas' and Nike's knitted high-collared boots: To fit like a sock. (The boot is really just a sock with a Sprintframe outsole).
From an early idea to a final product. Adidas has shown off three prototypes of the laceless Adidas Ace PureControl Boots. And even though it's certain that Adidas have developed much more prototypes before launching their revolutionary boots, it's still very interesting to see some of the cleats that were made during the design process of the Adidas Ace PureControl.
Adidas Ace 2016 PureControl Prototype Boots
Here are the three prototype boots Adidas has shown off so far.
Prototype #1 - The First Dream
The inspiration for a laceless boot started with our players. Listening to their experience, insight and challenges resulted in an exciting new design. This early prototype shows much more support on the heel and side of the boot.
Prototype #2 - Initial Design
From a first sketch and initial design the boot evolved based on everyone's experience throughout the process. The visible support details are now balanced with a much cleaner design, showing a higher sock-like upper and an internal knit support system.
Prototype #3 - Less Is More
Our players are a central part in the development of the boot. They test, see how they feel, how they look. The player feedback helps to make adjustments step by step, until we've reached a result that performs to adidas' standards.
Adidas Ace 16+ PureControl - The First Knitted Laceless Boot
The final result is a unique and pure football boot. It feels like wearing a trainers without compromising on stability. The ACE 16+ Purecontrol is reduced to only the simplest, most needed parts possible. Never before have your feet been this close to the ball.
Please note that each description of the boots is from Adidas. For us, the most interesting Adidas Ace PureControl Prototype is the first one. We are sure that there have been much more experimental and earlier prototypes of the first knitted laceless boot that Adidas has not shown off yet. We can hardly wait to see them ;)

Harrogate Town 26-27 Home Kit Released
Harrogate Town has officially revealed its new home kit for the 2026-2027 season. Produced by technical sponsor New Balance, the latest primary strip offers a bold and modern twist on the club's traditional yellow and black colors. Following the recent reveal of their striking geometric away jersey, this home release confirms that New Balance is committed to delivering highly bespoke and eye-catching designs for the North Yorkshire side's upcoming campaign.
The New Balance Harrogate Town 26-27 home shirt features a vibrant yellow base, anchored by thick black vertical stripes across the front of the torso. However, instead of traditional solid bands, these stripes are executed with a modern, pixelated halftone gradient effect that fades heavily around the midsection to seamlessly accommodate the black "envirovent" sponsor logo. To ensure a cohesive and sharp aesthetic, the New Balance manufacturer logo and the official club crest are both applied in a sleek black and yellow monochrome finish.
The launch completes the team's set for 2026-2027.
