Udinese Impromptu Modifies Kit to Avoid Clash

Due to the referee fearing a possible kit clash, today's Serie A clash between Atalanta and Udinese started later than it was originally scheduled. When the two teams took the field finally, Udinese's jerseys looked pretty unusual, to say the least.

Both teams had initially planned to use their respective home uniforms, both of which heavily feature black. Instead of asking one team to switch to the alternative colors, the referee ordered Udinese to cover the black parts on the back of its shirts with white tape, a pretty unusual yet quite effective tactic to avoid the clash.

Udinese later explained that the shirt-shorts-socks combo it wanted to wear was approved by the league ahead of today's game, but match referee Fabio Maresca felt the two teams' uniforms were too similar.
