Dortmund To Honor Miners With Special Logo On Kit
Borussia Dortmund will thank the miners of the region by wearing a special slogan on their kits in the last Bundesliga match of the year against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On 21 December, the last German coal mine in the Ruhr area in Bottrop finally ceases regular production.
"Mining has had a profound impact on our region - as has football," says BVB Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke. "Every major traditional club in the Ruhr region was born on coal and steel. Coal, steel, football and beer have always belonged together here and shape our cooperation and our culture".
Borussia Dortmund Kit To Feature Special Lettering To Honor Last Miners
Borussia Dortmund's players will wear a kit with the slogan "Danke Kumpel" ("Thank you buddy!") to honor the miners for their outstanding services to the region. The lettwring features the colors of regular BVB sponsor Evonik.
"The end of coal mining marks the end of a great historical era," said Watzke. "The rise of the Ruhr to become one of the world's strongest industrial regions, the reconstruction after the Second World War, and the peaceful integration of millions of people from all over the world: none of this would have been possible without mining.
"Thank you Buddy" is a campaign within the framework of the initiative "Glückauf Zukunft! The RAG Foundation, RAG Aktiengesellschaft and Evonik Industries AG, together with IGBCE, are honoring the achievements and achievements of the German coal industry in the Ruhr region with numerous events on the end of the German coal industry.
