'Mont-Halt' FC Barcelona 1975-76 vs Nike 2019-20 Away Kit - Design, Manufacturer, Materials, Usage

Nike released a quite classic yellow / blaugrana FC Barcelona away jersey for the 2019-20 season. However, the basic design idea was not created by Nike out of nothing - the Swoosh took an old FC Barcelona away shirt design as inspiration. We compare the original shirt with the modern interpretation. Thanks to Sport for the images of the OG kit.

The original yellow / blaugrana Barca 1975-1976 away kit was made by 'Mont-halt', a company owned by the family of the then president of FC Barcelona, Agustí Montal i Costa (Barcelona 1934-2017), a textile businessman who directed Barça's destinies between 1969 and 1977. The Barça 19-20 away kit is made by Nike, of course.

FC Barcelona 75-76 vs 2019-20 Away Jerseys

First, the template. The classic FC Barcelona kit feature Nike's style of 1975-76, while the remake is based on the latest Nike Vapor Knit template. This affects the collar (1975-76 Nike collar style vs 2019-20 collar style), the whole cut of the kit (manly on the back) as well as the logo on the bottom left. The logos are heat-printed instead of stitched.

While there are some visual differences, the more obvious difference are of course the materials used. The Barca 2019-20 away kit by Nike features the US giant's latest technologies and materials ("Nike Vaporknit" - 100% recycled polyester), while the classic FC Barcelona 1975-76 jersey is made 100% from cotton, as labeled on the inside of the jersey (100% Algodon).

Another important difference is that the Barca 1975-76 away kit was used for four! season until 1980, something that is unimaginable today. In fact, Barça only wore this jersey in four matches between April 1976 and February 1980, all European, two as visitors (Liverpool and Ipswich Town) and two at the Camp Nou (Östers Vaxjö and Nottingham Forest).
