New Strategy? Bayern München's Gnabry "Takes Over" No.7 Shirt From Ribery
In an unexpected move for the club, German Bundesliga team and 2019-20 Champions League winner FC Bayern Munich today announced a new shirt number for striker Serge Gnabry.
Serge Gnabry Switches From No. 22 To Number No. 7
From next season, Serge Gnabry, who up till now has worn the number 22 will turn out for FC Bayern in the number 7 shirt.
The number #7 shirt was rested last season, after Franck Ribéry had worn it for eleven years.
"I'm very happy to be wearing this number in the future," said Gnabry, "Franck always delighted the fans - that motivates me all the more."
It is very uncommon for Bayern to change the number of players
What makes this announcement interesting is that is something very uncommon for the German team.
Previously, FC Bayern Munich almost never gave their players new shirt numbers - youth products like Thomas Müller (#25), Bastian Schweinsteiger (#31) and David Alaba (#27) have / had always worn the same shirt number.
