Napoli Pays Homage To Diego Maradona by Wearing #10 Shirt Before Game
Yesterday, Diego Maradona passed away. Obviously, the whole football world mourns the loss of Diego Armanda Maradona but there is only one place apart from Argentinean soil where he was idolized, SSC Napoli.
Winning 2 Serie A titles and 1 UEFA cup with the South Italian side, Diego will eternally be in the heart of the club and its supporters for everything he has achieved with the team. If you ever visited Naples you will know that he is everywhere. For example, there are murals of his face on buildings.
Therefore, it only seems adequate to say that SSC Napoli is affected a lot by his tragic passing. To show the world their deep condolences, Napoli showed up on the pitch against Croatian side Rijeka today wearing Maradona's number 10 for a potentially last time. The club retired his shirt number back in 2000 to do justice to Maradona's achievements with the club.
What do you think of this gesture? Should Maradona's shirt number stay retired? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
