Dortmund 23-24 Home Kit Contest Winner Won't Be Announced This Year
Update: Dortmund recently announced that the winner of the club's 2023-24 home kit contest will not be announced before next year. As reported by Ruhr Nachrichten, the winner was already chosen but will not be made public until the summer of 2023.
"Even at BVB, only a handful of people know who won. We informed the finalists that they would have to be patient for a while," explains Kerstin Zerbe, Managing Director of BVB Merchandising GmbH. Zerbe continued: "For our partner Puma, the campaign means considerable additional work in the process and in production. But Puma was extremely cooperative and very interested in implementing this unique campaign together right from the start."
Borussia Dortmund today revealed the nine final designs for the club's 23-24 home kit.
On 7 January 2022, Dortmund launched a so-called 'Kit Contest' that allows fans and jersey designers the chance to have a hand in the club's 2023-24 home kit design. More than 15,000 suggestions were submitted, and a jury of nine chose nine final designs.

BVB 23-24 Home Kit
The nine final designs for the BVB 23-24 home jersey all have bespoke looks in the club's black and yellow colors. Two of the nine kits use an electricity yellow color, which was introduced by Nike for the club in the 1990s.
Each submission has been checked in cooperation with Puma and developed further in consultation with the participants. This ensures that the home jersey complies with all production and regulatory requirements. The design is bound to the Equipment Regulations of the Bundesliga.
Timo R. from Marl
"100% identification: It should be a REAL home shirt. What makes a BVB home game special? The fans, the Yellow Wall and the stadium.
0% changeability: Stripes and patterns are nice, but if you change colours and the logo, leave out the stars… you know what I mean."
André K. from Appen
"For me it was clear that it could only be the classic BVB colours. With the design, which is reminiscent of a coal line, I immortalised the heart of the Ruhr region on the jersey. In keeping with the motto “There is no future without origins”, the dynamic course of the drawing is intended to underline the modern side of the club."
Eric K. from Solothurn
"The city border around the crest breaks through the Dortmund yellow proudly worn by our players and brings out the tradition of the Ruhr area with the coal black underneath. A tradition deeply rooted within the city, its region and the new jersey, which shows where BVB is based. BVB ¬– a club that stands for its diversity and the passion of its people."
JAIME C. D. from Mexico City
"The design is based on the city map of Dortmund, which appears on the upper part of the jersey. Accompanied by classic diagonal stripes that represent the forward movement, the decision to confront the opponent's goal and the real will to win, which is so characteristic of this club."
Patrick P. from Menden
"The jersey design is the statement piece for the players on the pitch. And the fans also want to wear this jersey with pride. The design is therefore timeless and modern. The vertical stripes with different thicknesses look very dynamic and down-to-earth. The indicated logo with reduced opacity in the right corner livens everything up a bit."
Moritz R. from Solingen
"80,000 fans. 130 decibels. 1 battle cry. 1 jersey. The soundtrack "Auf geht’s Dortmund, kämpfen und siegen!" connects us fans with the team. The energy from the stands, the pumping sounds, the atmosphere in the most beautiful stadium in the world are not only transmitted acoustically to the team but are also visually expressed in this jersey."
Phillip Z. from Dortmund
"You never know where you're going if you don't know where you come from. The jersey should express the connection to the city. Borussia Dortmund has become a world famous and popular soccer club. But the heart beats here. Everything that defines the club is here in the region. Everything comes together at the birthplace of Borussia Dortmund, the BORSIGPLATZ. With our founding place on the jersey, we would have confidence and no matter whether in the stands or on the pitch: The beating of the chest after the opening goal would have even more meaning."
Patrick A. from Dortmund
"Anchored in the city and its history: the jersey combines the coat of arms, the colours and a significant part of Dortmund's history – coal."
Tim v. W. from Marburg
"My jersey design was inspired by our Cup jersey from the 19/20 season as well as the last special jerseys. It was important for me to create a connection to Borussia Dortmund and the city with the colour scheme and the pattern. That is why I chose the legendary neon yellow from the 90s era as well as the print of the Dortmund skyline and city map as a motif on the jersey."
Everyone can now vote now until 18.03.22 for their top 3 favorite designs for the BVB home jersey of the 2023-2024 season.

Guillermo Ochoa Wears World Cup 'Legacy' Patch Amid Eligibility Controversy
During Mexico's recent 2026 World Cup group stage match against Czechia, veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was spotted wearing the exclusive FIFA Legacy patch. Ochoa, who entered the game as a substitute, displayed the special badge on his 2025-26 Mexico kit to celebrate his historic inclusion in a sixth World Cup squad. The newly introduced patch features "Legacy" text and is intended to honor players who have participated in five or more World Cup tournaments, a milestone shared by legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The appearance of the badge on Ochoa's jersey has sparked debate, as it seemingly contradicts FIFA's strict appearance rules. While Ochoa has been called up for six consecutive tournaments spanning from 2006 to 2026, he did not play a single minute in the 2006 and 2010 editions. According to official guidelines, a player must see actual on-pitch playing time in at least five different World Cups to qualify for the Legacy distinction.

The decision to utilize the home, away, and third kits in the opening round highlights a modern trend of maximizing kit visibility during major international tournaments. The strategy ensured that their entire collection received time in the global spotlight before the knockout stages.
