Have Bayern München Tricked Fans With Mainly White Home Kit?

Bayern Munich, the German football powerhouse, have revealed their new 23-24 home kit this week. It has the club's classic colors, red and white, but different than usual - it is mainly white, with red only being the accent color. Is this a violation of the club's and fans' agreement?

Bayern Munich 23-24 at Home is Not Against the Rules, but a Bit Against the Spirit of Them

In 2018, after weeks of fans' protests, Bayern announced that their "kits are going to be red and white only in future". The 2023-24 home kit now has these colors, but in a different order - white is the main color.

A white and red kit is nothing all-new for Bayern Munich but deeply connected to their early history. They wore a white kit with maroon sleeves when they won their first German league title in 1932, and they had a similar kit in 1965 when they gained promotion to the 1. Bundesliga.

South American teams have much stricter kit rules

It appears probable that the fans originally desired a predominantly red kit with white accents in 2018, as evidenced by their protests. However, it seems that the majority of the fan base is not opposed to the predominantly white kit, as there have been no further protests.

Indeed, the fan protests had been mainly against the navy elements of the Bayern 2018-2019 home kit, especially the navy shorts. This can not happen anymore. In the 2023-24 season, Bayern combine their white/red kit with red shorts and socks.

In fact, there exist much stricter kit rules in other parts of the planet, mainly in South America. For example, the Brazilian club São Paulo have kit regulations that oblige not only the colors but also the exact width of the stripes and other elements.

São Paulo FC Kit Rule: Number 1 ["Home"] will be composed of white shirts, with 3 (three) horizontal bands, red, white, and black, in that order, covered entirely by the crest. The red and black bands are 5 (five) centimeters wide and the white band is 2.5 centimeters wide. Uniform number 1 will also consist of white shorts and white socks. In case of impossibility determined by the organizing entity of the game, black shorts and socks must be used. Only when it is impossible to use the preferred colors by determination of the organizing entity of the game, red shorts and socks will be used.

Bayern Kits Allowed By Kit Rules

Thanks to the loose rules, Bayern can not only have a mainly white home kit but also a vertical striped kit, a hooped kit, and "an Ajax" kit.

Against the spirit of having red and white only kits? What do you think of Bayern having a mainly white home kit? Let us know in the comments below.
