- Dual Functionality and Debut: This innovative technology not only provides robust anti-counterfeiting by distinguishing official kit details from fakes but also serves as a digital platform for fan engagement, making its debut with Liga MX clubs Club Deportivo Guadalajara and CF Monterrey Rayados.
Mexican heat transfer and embellishment manufacturer Canton Merchandising has introduced a groundbreaking anti-counterfeiting solution named Digital Smart Transfer. Timed to mark the company's 10th anniversary, the technology embeds invisible digital watermarks directly into official football shirt embellishments, allowing instant authentication via smartphone.
Technology That Makes Counterfeit Authentication Easier
Unlike traditional authentication methods that rely on visible QR codes, external hangtags, or embedded NFC chips, the Digital Smart Transfer technology incorporates imperceptible Digimarc watermarking straight into the print material. The invisible layer can be seamlessly applied across namesets, player numbers, club crests, sleeve badges, and sponsor graphics without altering the design, weight, or feel of the garment.
Digital Smart Transfer Authentication
Verification is straightforward for supporters and collectors. By using the dedicated Smart Reader Cantón app—available for both iOS and Android—users simply point their smartphone camera at the marked nameset or badge. The app instantly recognizes the embedded watermark pattern, confirms whether the product is genuine official merchandise, and provides proof of authenticity.
Beyond anti-counterfeiting measures, the system doubles as a digital platform for fan engagement. Clubs and manufacturers can integrate the technology into their official apps to deliver exclusive multimedia content, match stats, personalized fan experiences, and digital certificate verification whenever a jersey is scanned.
The new technology has made its debut in Liga MX, rolling out on official transfers for Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) and CF Monterrey Rayados. While no anti-counterfeiting measure is completely impenetrable, the invisible watermarking provides clubs, retailers, and collectors with a fast, modern layer of security to distinguish official kit details from market fakes.
