Brazil 2015 Kits Canceled Due to Disappointing 2014 Sales
Respected Brazilian paper Folha de S.Paulo this week shed light on the mysterious situation of the new Brazil home and away kits that were meant to be launched this year.
Initially scheduled for a release in spring this year, the Brazil 2015 home and away kits never went on sale, although the women's national team wore them at the World Cup in June.
Brazil 2015 Kits Canceled Due to Low 2014 Sales
Two reasons for the canceled launch are cited in the report. For one, Nike expected sale to be much higher in the build-up to the 2014 World Cup. Additionally, the horrific 7-1 loss to Germany in the 2014 semi-final abruptly ended the hype around the Brazil team in 2014. This means that a lot of unsold Brazil 2014 jerseys are still in stock, leading to plummeting prices.
Nike and the Brazilian federation commented that the decision was taken in late 2014 and also confirmed that new Brazil kits would be released in 2016, ahead of the Copa America Centenario and the Olympics.
Brazil used to release new kits every two years, like most other national teams, but opted to change to a one-year rhythm after the 2010 World Cup.
Interestingly, a similar decision appears to have taken place with the England 2015 away kit which was meant to be launched in early 2015.
