Premier League Rejects Renato Sanches' Swansea Number
It looks like Renato Sanches' stint on loan at Swansea isn't off to the best start possible as the Premier League announced it had blocked the Portuguese midfielder from getting his desired shirt number, 85.
85 was Sanches' initial number in the Benfica senior squad, before taking switching to 35 later. Incidentally, 35 is the number Sanches will wear at Swansea in the end, as the club confirmed later today.
The Premier League explained its decision the following way, via Swansea City:
"The Premier League reject the number 85 for Renato Sanches. He will now wear 35 for the Swans this season. The Premier League rule that squad numbers must be consecutive and close to the current highest number."
