Update: The Puma 365 Ignite High soccer shoes are your worst boot of the year, followed by the Puma Super Atom and the Adidas Mid Gore-Tex.

2017 Footy Headlines Boot Awards - Worst Football Boot of the Year - Results

The end of the year is in sight now. We want to let choose the fans the best and worst soccer cleats of the year with the 2017 Footy Headlines Boot Awards.

The Footy Headlines 2017 Boot Awards is broken down in four categories this year (Best Boot, Worst Boot, Most Innovative, Special Award). You can already vote for the Best Football Boot of 2017. The vote for the Most Innovative boot will begin soon, while the special award is chosen by the Footy Headlines Team.

Worst Football Boot of 2017

Here are some of the worst soccer cleats of the year.

2017 brought us some disgusting and horrendous football boots, with each brand releasing quite a few boots that were slow sellers such as the Nike Hypervenom x EA Sports FIFA 18 football boots (it was likely the first time that you could get a limited-edition Nike football boot weeks after the official launch for a fraction of the original price) or simply unneeded (Puma Super Atom, some Adidas collections / special-edition boots).

Adidas Ace Purecontrol Kith Flamingo: Despite being a strictly limited edition release, the Adidas Ace Purecontrol 17+ boot of the first-ever Adidas Football Kith collaboration is selling for a half of around the original price.

Adidas Copa 17.1 Mid Gore-Tex: Scheduled for a release in late 2017, the Adidas Copa Mid Gore-Tex is the first-ever soccer cleat / hiking boot hybrid. The boot has not been released yet, however, and maybe Adidas decided to bury them even before the launch.

Adidas X 16.1 Pure Stealth: One of Adidas' special-edition release that proofed to be not popular at all - it is not hard to see why.

Adidas Glitch Mirage Pack Pink: Adidas has released extremely many Glitch editions this year. Not all could be great...

New Balance Furon 3.0: The already third generation of the New Balance Furon soccer cleats is reported to better than the first generations... But those are known as the by far worst football boots that were released in the past few years. New Balance, it is time to discontinue them.

Nike Hypervenom Phantom III Launch Colorway: The Nike Hypervenom launch paint job looks very outdated and, for us, much worse than all colorways released of the actually great boot released since then.

Puma Super Atom: An exact copy of the Puma Super Atom soccer cleat that was released in 1952 (first-ever boot to feature screw-in studs - marked Puma's venture into the football world), it remains Puma's secret who needed that boot in 2017 to play football.

Puma 365 Ignite High Football Boot: One of the most horrendous football shoes released this year, the all-new Puma 365 Ignite boot for small-sided football will definitely not sell out fast with people describing them as hiking boot...

Puma evoSPEED Bellerin: Hector Bellerin's signature boot is an example of Puma's not-so-great but many signature releases this year (Too much is going on here...)

Como 1907 Announce Kit Design Contest

Italian club Como 1907 has launched a new design contest, inviting fans and designers to create a new look for the team. While the official announcement asked supporters to design a t-shirt for Como, it is likely that the club is referring to a football kit, given the context of the post and the reactions from the fanbase.

The club has kept the instructions incredibly open, stating there is no brief, no rules, and no excuses. To enter the competition, fans simply need to create their design, post it on Instagram, and tag the official Como 1907 account.

The announcement has already sparked significant interest online, with numerous supporters sharing their concepts and ideas. Whether the winning design will be produced as an official match kit, a pre-match shirt, or a special edition lifestyle item remains to be seen, but it offers a unique opportunity for fans to leave their mark on the club's visual identity.

FIFA Denies Guillermo Ochoa 2026 World Cup Legacy Patch Over Appearance Rules

Guillermo Ochoa has been denied the chance to wear FIFA's new legacy patch at the 2026 World Cup. Despite being selected for six World Cup tournaments spanning from 2006 to 2026, the Mexican goalkeeper does not meet the strict criteria set by FIFA. The governing body requires players to have made on-pitch appearances in at least five different World Cups to qualify for the special badge.

Ochoa did not play any minutes during the 2006 and 2010 tournaments, meaning he has only registered on-pitch appearances in three World Cups prior to the 2026 edition. Because of this, FIFA officially refused to award him the patch. Other veterans playing in the tournament, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Manuel Neuer, and Yuto Nagatomo, have received the legacy patch for meeting the five-tournament appearance threshold.

The Mexican Football Federation is reportedly planning to push for a reconsideration of the ruling. If Ochoa features in a match during the 2026 tournament, the federation intends to appeal FIFA's decision in hopes of securing the legacy patch for the veteran goalkeeper.
