New Dortmund Striker Batshuayi Wears Different Shirt Number in Europa League - Here is Why

If you watched yesterday's UEFA Europa League match between Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta, you might have noticed that new BVB striker Michy Batshuayi was wearing a shirt with number 42 instead of 44. Let us find out why.

Batshuayi Wears Number 42 in Europa League Because Number 44 Used by Former BVB Player Till Schumacher

Batshuayi has had to switch shirt numbers because youth player Till Schumacher, who has since moved to FC Vysocina Jihlava in the Czech top flight, was registered under the shirt number 44 with UEFA at international level. UEFA rules prohibit players from taking over numbers used by other players. Batshuayi will wear the number 42.

Michy Batshuayi is not the only player with two different shirt numbers this season - Arsenal's new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan will also wear two different numbers on the back of his shirt during the first six months at his new club (Premier League - 7 and Europa League - 77).
