Released Just a Few Days Before the Nike Magista | Throwback - Adidas Samba Primeknit - World's First Knitted Football Boots

Some days ago, Adidas released the first-ever knitted Primeknit version of their iconic Adidas Samba indoor football and lifestyle boots. Let us take a look back at the Adidas Samba Primeknit, the world's first knitted football boot.

In early 2014, the year of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the battle for the world's knitted football boot was in full swing. Nike players were spotted wearing blackout prototypes of the revolutionary knitted Magista cleat in training in January 2014. Likely being aware of Nike's revolutionary Nike Magista Obra football boot that was fully launched in March 2014, Adidas became the brand to release the world's first knitted soccer cleat in late February 2014, limited to just 150 pairs globally.

Adidas Samba Primeknit - Multicolor / White

The Adidas Samba Primeknit are the first football boots designed with a fully knitted upper from heel to toe to deliver a bespoke second-skin fit while retaining the strength of a conventional pair of football boots. The Adidas Samba Primeknit was the result of 2 years of development and testing, from initial design to lacing up players such as Suarez for feedback to launch.

However, even though the Adidas Samba Primeknit featured a knitted upper, the boot was very stiff and not as flexible and soft as players initially expected and not nearly as game-changing as the sock-like Nike Magista.

Luis Suarez debuted the Adidas Samba Primeknit soccer cleat in the Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on March 16, 2014.

In July 2014, Adidas launched a white and black colorway of the Adidas Samba Primeknit football boot - limited to 500 pairs globally.

One year after the launch of the Adidas Samba Primeknit, Adidas launched the second generation of the Adidas Samba Primeknit featuring a brand-new sock-like ankle design.
