Full BVB Logo History - Here Is Why Borussia Dortmund's Logo Featured A Lion For Two Years
Today we want to take a look at the logo history of current Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund was founded in 1909 as Ballspielverein Dortmund. BVB is short for Ballspielverein Borussia 09 (Ballspielverein means ball playing club). The club had its first real logo designed in 1945.
Borussia Dortmund Logo History
BVB club has had a distinctive logo since the first real crest was created in 1945, with the exception of two years - Between 1976-1978 version a lion’s muzzle was placed in the center of the logo because of new BVB main sponsor and first BVB kit sponsor Samson, a tobacco company.
Apart from the two years in the late 1970s, the Borussia Dortmund logo has been pretty much the same since 1945. It always included three letters “BVB” and the number “09” below, the same color scheme, the same circle shape with a black outline. The original logo included the word “Dortmund”.
