When Puma launched the new Palmeiras 2020 home kit this week, you likely immediately thought that is has clear similarities with the special green Italy 'Renaissance' 2020 third kit Puma launched in late 2019. We compare both kits, revealing that they have clear similarities, and that not by chance.

SE Palmeiras Was Founded By Italian Immigrants As Palestra Italia

SE Palmeiras was founded on 26 August 1914, as Palestra Italia by young Italian immigrants. The club changed to the current name (Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras - SE Palmeiras) on 14 September 14, 1942. So the reason for both kits to be similar is simple - now let them compare directly.

Italy 'Renaissance' 2019-2020 Third Kit vs Palmeiras 2020 Home Kit

The Italy 2020 third jersey the traditional mosaics of Italian fabrics and architecture of the Renaissance, similar to the Palmeiras 2020 home kit. The Palmeiras 2020 home jersey is inspired by the Italian immigrants on their way to Brazil in the early 1900’s. Specifically, the design is directly inspired by the handbook that Italian immigrants received on their way to Brazil.

The graphic pattern is different on both jerseys (Palmeiras' graphic also includes the famous P from the club's crest).

The green color of Italy's jersey is the same as those from Palmeiras, and different to the "Maglia Verde" worn once by Italy during the 2-0 win against Argentina in December 1954 at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Other differences are the accent color (white vs gold / navy), the collar and the overall template.
