Economic Woes: Nike Galatasaray 20-21 Shirts Will Only Be Sold as Cheap 'Fan Tee' Version in Turkey
Nike and Galatasaray have taken the decision to only release the cheaper 'Fan Tee' variant of the club's 20-21 home and away shirts in Turkey.
According to our source, the decision was not taken lightly but was heavily influenced by the economic woes Turkey is experiencing at the moment, and the continued weakening of the Turkish Lira in particular. Compared to the US Dollar, for example, the Lira has lost another fifth of its value over the past year, making it increasingly difficult to make money selling shirts in the country.
So far we have only been able to confirm this in regards to stationary stores and it has to be said that Nike's other 20-21 shirts such as Inter and PSG are being sold on Nike.com.tr. However, they retail at TRY520 (USD76), compared to the TRY250 (USD36) Nike charges for the 2019-20 Galatasaray jerseys.
We've been told that the 20-21 Fan Tees will be sold at TRY 279, which is more than the Stadium jerseys cost before!
Galatasaray fans abroad will not be affected by this however, as the regular 'Stadium' jersey will still be sold in other countries.
The 'Fan' jerseys are made of a different material and lack crucial details found in the Stadium and Match versions.
There is no design on the back or sleeves, the side panels are missing and the material is different, to name just a few of the many differences.
