Wijnaldum Wears "OneLove" Captain Armband - Campaign of Oranje National Team
Georginio Wijnaldum wore a special OneLove armband at the upcoming Round of 16 match in the Hungarian capital Budapest. It is mainly white with the lettering ONE LOVE and a big heart in rainbow colors between it.
Wijnaldum: We are against any form of exclusion and discrimination
OneLove is a campaign started in September 2020 by Dutch football with an open letter signed by sixty parties from professional and amateur football. With the OneLove campaign, we – the Oranje national team, the KNVB, and other parties in football – are propagating that we want to unite and connect instead of excluding and discriminate.
The players of the Netherlands men’s and women’s national teams have embraced the OneLove campaign and all captains in professional soccer wore the OneLove armband during this year's Coming Out Weekend.
Wijnaldum: "By wearing this armband we want to emphasize that we stand for inclusiveness and connection. We are against any form of exclusion and discrimination. We hope to support everyone who feels discriminated against across the world".
Wijnaldum showed off a captain armband ahead of the match but it was a little different from the one used in the game.
Another player to wear a special captain armband to promote diversity is Germany's Manuel Neuer. The UEFA had halted an investigation into Manuel Neuer's rainbow-colored captain's armband but stopped it very soon.

Newcastle United to Update Club Crest for 27-28 Season
Newcastle United have provided an official update on their plans to introduce a new club crest, confirming the change will take effect starting from the 27-28 season.
Originally announcing a review of their visual identity in 2025, the Magpies have now outlined the next steps, giving fans a central role in deciding the final look of the logo. This will mark the first alteration to Newcastle's crest since 1988.
The club will host workshops with supporter groups in early August, which will be followed by a formal poll showcasing the crest options to eligible fans.
Newcastle United have emphasized that the upcoming update will be an evolution rather than a complete overhaul, focusing on refining the existing historic elements. The primary reason for the change is the complexity of the current badge, which struggles with legibility and consistent reproduction across modern digital platforms and merchandise.
