Massive Fake News About PSG Selling 832k Messi Shirts?
Many reports and even more Tweets and Images and social media seem to reveal that PSG sold 832,000 Messi shirts in the first 24 hours. However, the sum is not correct almost certainly.
Yesterday, we reported how many Messi kits PSG might have sold and how they could refinance the deal. We stated that we could not find the source for the 832k, and now everything seems to turn out as "massive fake news".
This picture went viral - the source is unknown, Spanish newspaper Marca did never report about it
Did PSG Sell 150,000 Messi Shirt Online In 7 Minutes?
The sum of 832,000 shirts is not from 2021 but 2014. On 2 September 2014, Barcelona fan @Barzaboy shared a mocked-up picture of Messi with the following text:
DEAL DONE: PSG have signed Lionel Messi , 832,000 shirts have been sold so far [MARCA] pic.twitter.com/VsTI1zlYC6

2 September 2014: DEAL DONE: PSG have signed Lionel Messi, 832,000 shirts have been sold so far [MARCA]
This is a clear confirmation that the sold 832k shirts are wrong.
Now, however, there is a new sum in the game.
“They put 150,000 shirts on sale on their website last night at 10 p.m. U.K. time and they had sold out within seven minutes, so there are certainly opportunities from commercializing and monetizing the Messi name, and that will have allowed the club to have funded his salary,” Maguire said.
Maguire did not say what's the source of the 150,000 shirts.
We will have to wait some weeks or months to get official data from the club or Nike but it is safe to assume that Messi's PSG kit will be the most-sold shirt in the 21-22 season.
PSG Nike Deal - Worth A Fixed Sum of 80 Million Euro / Season, Not Much Extra Money For Shirt Sales
PSG's deal with kit manufacturer, Nike, gives the French club €80million upfront each year. They get not much extra money for shirt sales, reportedly. AS claims that PSG are attempting to restructure their deal to benefit from the huge increase in shirt sales.
