The 2030 World Cup mark the 100-years anniversary of the World Cup
The FIFA 2030 World Cup will be the 24th FIFA World Cup. But what is more important is that it will mark the centennial of the first World Cup. The first World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay.
CONMEBOL President Makes Appeal For 2030 World Cup to Take Place in South America
The first-ever World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay.
Alejandro Domínguez made an appeal to FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, for the 2030 World Cup to be held in South America. It would be, in the words of the leader, "a gesture to honor the memory" of those who made the first edition of the World Cup possible, organized in 1930 in Uruguay.
The speech took place during a visit by Gianni Infantino to Paraguay, for the inauguration of a training center dedicated to women's football.
The host of the 2030 World Cup will be decided in 2024
The host of the 2030 World Cup will be decided in 2024. Today there are two officially launched bids: a South American one formed by Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile, and another from Europe with Portugal and Spain.
"There may be more luxurious, more modern stadiums in the world. We may even think that other countries can make a replica of the Centenary Stadium, but the truth is that there is only one Centenary Stadium," declared Alejandro Domínguez, about the stadium built in Montevideo to host matches of the first World Cup in history, in 1930.
In 2004, Brazil and France wore retro kits for the FIFA Centenary match
"History cannot be bought with money, luxury does not make history. I invite you [the Fifa president] to have a World Cup here in 2030, to play with the same uniforms [of 1930], to go back to the essence. We are ready to have the World Cup in 2030".
It would be not the first time for national teams to wear retro kits for a centennial. In 2004, for the FIFA Centenary Match, France faced Brazil wearing kits from the early 1900s.
