Independent from Adidas: Atlético Mineiro to Produce "Manto da Massa" Kit In-House
Atlético Mineiro will continue to release fan designed "Manto da Massa" kits, but technical sponsor Adidas will not produce them.
Atlético Mineiro to Make Manto da Massa Kits In-House
Kit design contests are relatively commonplace in football today, allowing fans and designers to submit their proposals with the online community then voting for the winner. Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund are a couple of the biggest clubs to use such an initiative, but Atlético Mineiro's 2021 fan-designed effort is probably the one which has achieved the most acclaim so far. They have released one every year since 2020 and given the success of the shirts, the club plan on continuing the tradition.

Le Coq Sportif produced the first three, but Atlético switched to Adidas earlier this year. Club director Leandro Figueiredo recently explained that during the negotiations with Adidas, it was agreed that the club would produce the 2023 Manto da Massa shirt themselves, with no involvement from Adidas. This way, the club keep all of the revenue generated, which is fundamental to their finances. The club plan on creating their own in-house brand, under whose name the kits will be produced.

Are you glad they will continue to produce fan-designed shirts? Do you think the quality will be affected a result of them being produced in-house? Let us know in the comments.
