World Cup Final and 3rd Place Play-Off Kit Matchups Revealed

Update - December 17: With the play-off for third place taking place today, FIFA have also revealed the kit matchup for the fixture between Croatia and Morocco.

Original - December 15, 2022: The World Cup in Qatar is coming to an end, after the semi-finals were rounded off yesterday. Argentina will face France in a duel for each nation's respective third title. We want to show you the kits that will be worn in the historic match.

World Cup Final Kit Matchup

Here are the outfits that will be worn during the 2022 World Cup final.

Although they are the designated home side, Argentina will once again be wearing their alternate home outfit, which has white shorts instead of black ones. France meanwhile play all seven of their matches in their home kit, using the all-navy look in this case.

We think it is a bit disappointing that neither nation will play in their proper full home outfits.

Back in the France-Argentina fixture during the 2018 World Cup, the French wore the Tricolor, while Argentina had on their black shorts with their home kit.

World Cup 3rd Place Play-Off

The two underdogs of the semi-finals face off a day before the final.

As Croatia and Morocco already met in the group stage of the tournament (0-0), we already have a reference for how the sides will look.

Both sides will appear in their full home outfits, as these do not really clash.

Any realistic alternatives would have involved Croatia giving up their home status and first kit choice.

What do you think of the outfits Argentina and France are wearing for the World Cup final? Should both sides have worn their first choice shorts and socks? Comment below.

While the official announcement asked supporters to design a t-shirt for Como, it is likely that the club is referring to a football kit, given the context of the post and the reactions from the fanbase.

FIFA Denies Guillermo Ochoa 2026 World Cup Legacy Patch Over Appearance Rules

Guillermo Ochoa has been denied the chance to wear FIFA's new legacy patch at the 2026 World Cup. Despite being selected for six World Cup tournaments spanning from 2006 to 2026, the Mexican goalkeeper does not meet the strict criteria set by FIFA. The governing body requires players to have made on-pitch appearances in at least five different World Cups to qualify for the special badge.

Ochoa did not play any minutes during the 2006 and 2010 tournaments, meaning he has only registered on-pitch appearances in three World Cups prior to the 2026 edition. Because of this, FIFA officially refused to award him the patch. Other veterans playing in the tournament, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Manuel Neuer, and Yuto Nagatomo, have received the legacy patch for meeting the five-tournament appearance threshold.

The Mexican Football Federation is reportedly planning to push for a reconsideration of the ruling. If Ochoa features in a match during the 2026 tournament, the federation intends to appeal FIFA's decision in hopes of securing the legacy patch for the veteran goalkeeper.
