Russia Still Wear Adidas 2020 Kit in International Friendlies

This past week, during the international break, Russia national football team played friendly matches against Iran and Iraq while using the Adidas kit. Since they’re not getting any new products from the three stripes because of their recent FIFA and UEFA ban, Sbornaya opted to use their old 2020 jersey instead.

The Sbornaya played with the same home Adidas kit in both of their matches against Iran, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and their 2-0 victory against Iraq. The jersey that Russia opted to use in those friendly matches was released to mark their participation in the Euro 2020 which saw them finishing last in their group.

The 2020 kit was mainly in red and based the on Condivo 20 and an additional white color combination on its collar and sleeve cuffs. That jersey was also re-designed following Russia’s refusal to wear it because the initial sleeves resemble the Serbian flag.

Russia 2022 Home Kit

Before the ban from FIFA and UEFA, Russia would’ve got a new home and away jerseys ahead of the 2022 World Cup. However, it looks like Karpin’s men will not get an opportunity to wear those potential new kits at all.

Russia Are Yet to Sign New Kit Deal After Adidas Ban

Because Adidas decided to stop supporting Russia, they reportedly could be getting a new sponsor. Zasport, a local-based company are reportedly open to becoming the new kit manufacturer for the Sbornaya but so far there’s no agreement just yet.

FIFA and UEFA’s ban on Russia national football team and its clubs are not lifted yet but that didn’t stop the country from playing international football. Just as other European countries are playing Euro 2024 qualifier, Sbornaya decided to play friendlies against two Asian sides, Iran and then Iraq. Since they are still banned, Russia will also miss out on the upcoming Euro 2024 finals in Germany.

The second game against the Lions of Mesopotamia is quite special for Russia as it was their first international game on home soil after the Ukraine invasion. Meanwhile, the match versus Iran were played away at the Azadi Stadium.
