Still No Number For Garnacho - Mason Mount Gets Manchester United No. 7 Kit

Out of quite a surprise, Manchester United's new signing Mason Mount has been given the iconic No.7 shirt, becoming the 10th player to wear the number since squad numbers were introduced in 1993.

Garnacho Does Not Get Manchester United No. 7 Kit

Manager Erik ten Hag offered the shirt to Mount during discussions prior to his transfer. The decision to give Mount the No.7 is seen as a strong signal of United's belief in the England international's ability and his pivotal role in the team.

Previous shirt holders include George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the shirt has become somewhat of a curse in recent years, with the likes of Michael Owen, Angel di Maria, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez and Edinson Cavani all struggling to live up to the shirt's prestige.

Mason has been wearing the No.19 shirt for Chelsea for the past five years, but he previously wore the No. 7 shirt during the 2020-21 season when playing for England. Mason also wore the No. 7 shirt for Chelsea's Under-23s during the 2016-17 season when they won the Under-18 Premier League and lifted the FA Youth Cup for the second consecutive time.

Garnacho is without a shirt number currently

Meanwhile, Garnacho, who wanted a No. 7 shirt, is now without a shirt number. His No. 49 shirt is not available to buy for the 2023-2024 home kit.
