Real Madrid Gets No FIFA Badge For Intercontinental Cup Victory
- Badge Award: The FIFA Club World Cup badge is awarded to the winner of the Club World Cup, not the Intercontinental Cup.
- Real Madrid: Real Madrid will likely not receive a badge for winning the Intercontinental Cup.
- Manchester City: Manchester City is expected to wear the FIFA Club World Cup badge until the new 2024 Club World Cup ends.
Update: As we expected, Real Madrid did not get a special badge for its 2024 Intercontinental Cup victory, which came in place of the old Club World Cup. Instead, Manchester City will wear the golden 2023 FIFA Club World Cup badge until the end of the all-new 2024 Club World Cup.
Real Madrid’s recent triumph in the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup has fans and experts alike wondering: does the victory earn them the coveted FIFA Club World Cup winners’ badge? Big thanks to kit expert and designer @hendocfc for the heads-up.
The golden FIFA badge is traditionally awarded to the reigning Club World Cup champions. It is worn on the chest of a team's jerseys for one year after winning the tournament.
Real Madrid Will Likely Get No Badge for Intercontinental Cup Victory
After Manchester City's victory in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, the club was officially awarded the golden badge, which it has worn until now. Fast forward to December 2024, and Real Madrid clinched a 3-0 victory over Pachuca in the first-ever FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.
Will Manchester City continue to wear the golden FIFA Club World Cup badge?
The Intercontinental Cup tournament was reintroduced by FIFA, which launched the all-new, big FIFA Club World Cup. The Intercontinental Cup is not the same as the old FIFA Club World Cup.
As of now, FIFA has made no indication that the golden badge will be extended to Intercontinental Cup winners or that a special Intercontinental Cup badge is available. Without an official statement, it seems unlikely that Real Madrid will have the privilege of wearing a badge for the Intercontinental Cup.
Indeed, Madrid is selling a special kit print for the 2024 Intercontinental Cup Victory, but no badge that honors the victory. It seems like there is no badge for it.
For now, it seems the golden badge remains exclusive to the FIFA Club World Cup winners. It will be interesting to see if Manchester City will continue to wear the badge until the end of the all-new 2024 FIFA Club World Cup - we expect so.
It seems probable that the first winner of the all-new FIFA Club World Cup will have the right to wear the badge for four years, at least if the team decides to do so.
We will watch out for Manchester City's and Madrid's next matches, which will give us clarity about how teams will manage the Club World Cup badge situation.
Do you think we will see the first winner of the all-new Club World Cup wearing the badge for a whole four years? Let us know in the comments below.

In a nod to the club's heritage, the poll is scheduled to close this Friday, May 15 at exactly 19:22 - a tribute to the club’s founding year.

FC Luzern 125th Anniversary 26-27 Home Kit Released
FC Luzern have unveiled their new 2026-27 home kit, debuting it in the final home game against FC Zürich. Made by Erreà, the new shirt replaces the traditional white details with gold elements, giving the kit a darker and more elegant appearance for the club’s 125th anniversary season.
The new FC Luzern home shirt features a deep navy base combined with gold logos, names and numbers, while subtle ornamental graphics inspired by the Rathaussteg bridge connect the design to the city of Lucerne. A special anniversary crest can also be added to the sleeve.
The red sponsor logo breaks up the design - the Luzern Women team kit comes with a much nicer gold sponsor.
The move away from white is a temporary one, with the club stressing that blue and white remain the official colours of FC Luzern.
