Newcastle United to Change Logo
- Logo Update: Newcastle United has officially announced plans to update the club's current crest to better suit digital platforms and global growth.
- Fan Consultation: The club is involving season ticket holders and members in the decision-making process through surveys to gather feedback on the crest's elements and history.
- Refine & Revive: The recommended approach is to 'Refine & Revive' the current crest, indicating that updates should be evolutionary rather than a complete redesign, contrasting with other teams like Ajax who are reverting to older logos.
Update: Newcastle United have announced that the Crest Workshop will take place tomorrow, Thursday 14 May at 6pm (season ticket holders and members only). The Crest Workshop is likely to seek the views of supporters on the forthcoming logo change.
Newcastle United have quietly officially announced their intention to update the club's current crest, initiating a consultation process with supporters to help shape its evolution. The club states the move is driven by the need for a symbol that can "keep pace" with their global growth and perform effectively across modern digital platforms and merchandise.
Newcastle only posted a small, low-key article on its website, but refrained from posting it on social media, possibly to avoid a social media backlash.
Newcastle United Announce Plans to Update Club Crest - Fan Consultation Begins
In a statement published on their website, Newcastle United acknowledged the iconic status of their current crest but highlighted its limitations in the digital age. The intricate design, created in a different era, reportedly "doesn't always translate well" and can be "difficult to reproduce clearly and consistently."
The club emphasizes that this process is "not about walking away from our past, but about carrying it forward with pride." Based on initial feedback, including discussions with their Fan Advisory Board (FAB), the recommended approach is to "Refine & Revive" the current crest, suggesting that any updates should be minimal and evolutionary rather than a complete redesign.
Fan Consultation Process
Newcastle United are now inviting Season Ticket holders and Members to share their views on what matters most regarding the crest. An independently run survey, conducted by a third party (Savanta), will be emailed directly to these fans. The survey will ask what elements should stay, what needs updating, and how the club's history can be best preserved and built upon. The deadline for this initial survey is 5 pm on Friday, May 16th.
Following the closure of the initial survey, the Fan Advisory Board has recommended that the wider fanbase be given a choice of options to select from during a second stage of consultation. This second stage will also be delivered via a separate survey, with dates to be announced later.
New, Old Classic 25-26 Ajax Logo - Originally released in 1928 and used until 1991

This move by Newcastle United at a time when some football teams and top brands take the opposite direction. Ajax returns to its intricate 1928 crest, while Burberry ditched their modern sans-serif logo for an intricate, "old-fashioned" design.
