Out of Nowhere: Chelsea Moves FIFA Club World Cup Badge Position
- Badge Relocation: Chelsea has moved the FIFA Club World Cup badge higher on their shirts for the new season, positioning it above the Nike swoosh and club crest.
- Reason for Change: The relocation was likely due to the badge's size, which created an undesirable visual hierarchy by overshadowing the Chelsea crest.
- Badge Duration: Chelsea will display the badge for at least four years following their 2025 Club World Cup victory.
Chelsea has relocated their FIFA Club World Cup Winners badge on the shirts for the new season.
Chelsea Puts Club World Cup Badge Much Higher
As seen in today's media shoot, the golden commemorative badge has been moved higher up on the chest, sitting above the Nike swoosh and crest rather than in the center. The new positioning creates an unusual aesthetic.
The reason for Chelsea's move of the badge is possibly that the roundel Club World Cup badge is larger than Chelsea's own crest, creating a hierarchy that seems backwards. The prominence of the FIFA badge over the club's traditional emblem is surely not optimal, even though it is reduced a little bit by moving it up.
Original FIFA Club World Cup badge - still used for the old Club World Cup winners
The previous shield-style FIFA Club World Cup design from earlier years is being fondly remembered by many supporters who preferred its more understated appearance. That badge integrated more naturally with the shirt's overall design and didn't dominate the visual space.
While Chelsea earned the right to display the badge after their 2025 Club World Cup triumph, the execution of its placement has left many questioning whether bigger necessarily means better when it comes to kit design.

Chelsea will wear the badge for at least four years, so the big golden badge is here to stay. It remains to be seen if we will get used to it, but we certainly will.
