Weird Trend? Players Wear Polo-Collared Shirts Beneath the Kit
- New Trend: A new trend has emerged where players and models are wearing polo-collared shirts underneath football jerseys in official launch photoshoots.
- Observed with Big Clubs: This styling technique has been seen in the launch campaigns for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona's new kits.
- Styling Choice: This trend is purely a styling choice for photoshoots and marketing campaigns and is not expected to be seen during actual matches, aiming to present the football kit as a more versatile fashion item.
As clubs roll out their new kits for the 2025-26 season, a peculiar new styling trend has emerged in the official launch photoshoots: players and models wearing a polo-collared shirt underneath the main football jersey. Big thanks to @Kitkingdom83 for the heads-up.
This strange and unexpected layering technique has been spotted in the launch campaigns for two of the world's biggest clubs, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Players Wear Polo-collared Shirts Beneath the Kit
The trend was prominently featured in the launch campaign for the new Adidas Real Madrid 2025-26 third kit. Models were seen wearing a white polo shirt under the blue jersey, creating a layered collar effect.
Similarly, Nike also adopted this style for the launch of the FC Barcelona 25-26 away kit. In these shots, a black polo shirt was layered beneath the new orange kit.
Not for the Pitch
It is important to note that this is purely a styling choice for photoshoots and marketing campaigns. This is not a look we expect to see on the pitch during an actual match. The trend appears to be an attempt by the brands to present the football kit as a more versatile fashion item, blending it with classic menswear pieces.
It's certainly a strange and unexpected look. While layering is a common fashion technique, the combination of a performance football kit with a classic polo collar underneath creates a slightly jarring and unusual aesthetic.
