Donnarumma Wears "Fan/Replica" Goalkeeper Kit

  • Donnarumma Kit Choice: Donnarumma wore a replica version of the goalkeeper jersey in the match between Manchester City and Arsenal.
  • Kit Details: The replica jersey Donnarumma wore had embroidered Puma and City logos and a looser fit, unlike the authentic player issue shirt.
  • Precedent: André Onana of Manchester United also reportedly preferred the replica kit due to discomfort with the tighter fit of the player issue shirt.

Update: Goalkeeper Donnarumma continued wearing the replica version of the goalkeeper jersey in last weekend’s match between Manchester City and Arsenal. Thanks to "Chuyện Áo Đấu" for the interesting spot.

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Premier League debut for Manchester City could not go any better, with City winning 3-0 against rivals Man Utd. When it comes to the kit, the eagle-eyed Vietnamese football kit experts Chuyện Áo Đấu have spotted something interesting.

As visible in the many pictures of his debut, Donnarumma was not wearing the authentic player issue shirt. Instead, Donnarumma used the replica version, with embroidered Puma and City logos rather than the lighter heat-pressed elements of the match shirt, and, crucially, a looser fit.

This is not the first time a top goalkeeper has made the switch. Two years ago, Manchester United’s André Onana reportedly preferred the replica kit as the tight fit of the player issue shirt made him uncomfortable during matches.
