Donnarumma Wears "Fan/Replica" Kit In Premier League Debut

  • Donnarumma's Kit: Gianluigi Donnarumma wore a replica Manchester City kit, instead of the authentic player issue shirt, during his Premier League debut.
  • Kit Details: The replica kit is identifiable by its embroidered logos, looser fit, and other features that differ from the player version.
  • Precedent: André Onana, formerly of Manchester United, also reportedly preferred wearing a replica kit due to discomfort with the tighter fit of the authentic version.

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Premier League debut for Manchester City could not go any better, with City winning 3-0 against rivals Man Utd. When it comes to the kit, the eagle-eyed Vietnamese football kit experts Chuyện Áo Đấu have spotted something interesting.

As visible in the many pictures of his debut, Donnarumma was not wearing the authentic player issue shirt. Instead, Donnarumma used the replica version, with embroidered Puma and City logos rather than the lighter heat-pressed elements of the match shirt, and, crucially, a looser fit.

This is not the first time a top goalkeeper has made the switch. Two years ago, Manchester United’s André Onana reportedly preferred the replica kit as the tight fit of the player issue shirt made him uncomfortable during matches.
