For the past decade, on almost all of England's white home kits, the star commemorating the 1966 World Cup victory has been rendered in white or silver. This often caused the star to blend into the shirt, making it very difficult to see from a distance.
The move to a gold star for the 2026 kit, which will be made with the new Nike AERO-FIT technology, makes the tribute much more prominent and visible.

The last time an England home shirt featured a non-white/silver star was back in 2013, on the special kit celebrating the FA's 150th anniversary, which also had a gold star.
