  • Kimmich's Shorts Ripped: During a friendly match against Luxembourg, Germany's captain Joshua Kimmich's shorts ripped open, leading to an on-field repair attempt.
  • Kit Staff's Repair Attempt: With no replacement shorts available, the German kit staff tried to fix the shorts using needles, pins, and tape on the touchline, accompanied by the stadium speakers playing "Sewing Needle."
  • The "Stapled Shorts" Incident: The makeshift repair was temporary, and Kimmich eventually changed into fresh shorts, but the incident overshadowed his two-goal performance in Germany's victory.

Germany’s friendly against Luxembourg had an unexpected moment of comedy when captain Joshua Kimmich’s shorts ripped wide open near the end of the match.

Kimmich Shorts Rip, No Replacement Shorts Available

Thanks to Vietnamese Áo Đấu Bóng Đá and Chuyện Áo Đấu for the collages.

With no replacement shorts apparently available, the German kit staff scrambled - using needles, pins, and tape to patch them up on the touchline. To make things even funnier, stadium speakers played the song “Sewing Needle” (“Nähnadel”) during the repair attempt, turning the mishap into an instant viral moment.

Usually, teams such as Germany have at least one replacement kit set for each player on the bench in these cases, but apparently, they did not bring extra shorts with them. If not playing against Luxembourg, being one player less could be painful, so we are pretty sure this was the last time Germany did not have enough replacement shorts on the bench.

The quick fix didn’t last long, and Kimmich eventually had to change into a fresh pair, but not before the “stapled shorts” stole the spotlight from his two-goal performance in Germany’s win.
