Where Are the Bundesliga Kit Debut Patches?
- Current Absence in 2. Bundesliga: Despite unofficial announcements and approval for a DFL Debut Patch for the 2026-27 season, early matches in the German second tier have commenced without these patches on new players' shirts.
- Debut Patch System Details: The approved initiative, modeled after MLS and MLB, requires players making their official debut to wear a "DEBUT" badge, which is then removed and embedded into a unique Topps trading card.
- Purpose and Implementation Questions: The DFL introduced the patch to strengthen fan engagement and increase visibility for new players in both Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga starting from the 2026-27 season, but its current absence in 2. Bundesliga raises questions about its introduction status.
Following the start of the German football season, we have noticed a curious absence: despite the widespread unofficial announcement of a brand-new DFL Debut Patch for the 26-27 season, early matches across the German second tier have kicked off without debut badges on new players' shirts.
Bundesliga & Topps Debut Patches Not Seen in 2. Bundesliga
Concept by Footy Headlines.
First approved by all 36 DFL clubs in late 2025, the debut patch initiative is directly modeled after the system used in Major League Soccer and MLB. Under the scheme, players making their official debut wear a special "DEBUT" badge on the chest above the manufacturer logo. Immediately after the final whistle, the patch is removed from the match-worn shirt and embedded into a unique, one-of-a-kind Topps trading card.
"With this introduction, DFL GmbH aims to strengthen fan engagement and increase the visibility of young players and Bundesliga newcomers," the motion stated. The new rule stipulates that players of legal age must wear a clearly visible debutant patch on their jersey when making their first start in the Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga. All 36 professional clubs approved the motion at the DFL assembly in Frankfurt.
The 2. Bundesliga kicked off first in August, but debutants like Cottbus player Moritz Hannemann did not sport a patch. It remains to be seen if we will see it in the "1. Bundesliga", or if the introduction was postponed/scrapped.

Brazilian club Santa Cruz FC and Reebok have officially unveiled the team's new third kit for the 26-27 season. Titled "A Profecia de 57", the special-edition release celebrates two defining moments in the club's history: the 1957 anthem written by Capiba that coined the nickname "O Terror do Nordeste", and the 2016 Copa do Nordeste title that fulfilled the prophecy ten years ago.
The Reebok Santa Cruz 26-27 third jersey introduces an elegant black and gold design. Across the black base, intricate golden fractured lines trace the geographical outline of Brazil's Northeast region. The front of the shirt features Santa Cruz's classic interlocking SCFC monogram badge rendered in metallic gold, mirrored by Reebok's vector logo on the opposite side. A sharp v-neck collar with gold trim and matching sleeve cuffs complete the look.
Subtle commemorative emblems highlighting "A Profecia de 57" and "O Terror do Nordeste" decorate the release alongside gold numbering on the reverse. Matching black shorts and socks with gold accents complete the new Santa Cruz third uniform.
