2014-15 Premier League: The Battle of the Boots

The 2014-15 Premier League season finished last weekend. While Chelsea won their fifth Premier League title and Manchester United managed to make the 15-16 Champions League play-offs, it has to be said that Nike won the 2014-15 Premier League battle of the boots.

Already supplying more than half of the players of the Premier League with boots, Nike also tops the goalscoring charts, both as a brand and with the Mercurial silo as a boot line. Adidas meanwhile is 2nd in all 14-15 Premier League brand rankings.

Nike won the Premier League battle of the brands

While Sergio Agüero (Puma evoSPEED) became the 14-15 Premier League top goalscorer with 26 goals, ahead of newcomer Harry Kane (Nike Hypervenom, 21 goals) and Diego Costa (Adidas F50 Adizero, 20 goals), Nike won the brand chart for goals with Nike players having scored more than half of all goals (492).

Adidas follows on 2nd place with 327 goals, while Puma ranks 3rd with 84. Impressively, in its first season, New Balance already made 4th place in the brands ranking with 22 scored goals.

A similar picture can be seen when looking at the number of goals scored with different football boots in the 14-15 Premier League season. Nike's Mercurial line (Mercurial Superfly + Mercurial Vapor) lead the ranking in this aspect, with 206 goals. Only the Adidas F50 Adizero comes close, adding 191 goals to its tally, which gives Adidas' speed boot a nice goodbye after more than ten years.

The Nike Magista, Nike Hypervenom and Adidas Predator boot silos follow on the places 3 to 5, while the first boot by a brand that is not part of the big two is the Puma evoSPEED on 7th place.

2014-2015 Premier League Top Goalscorers

Sergio Agüero tops the 14-15 Premier League goalscoring chart, ahead of Harry Kane and Diego Costa. Charlie Austin bagged an impressive 18 goals in his first season in the top-flight, while Alexis Sánchez managed to make an effortless switch to Premier League football, scoring 16 goals in the process.
