Schalke Instead of Dortmund - PES Announce Schalke Deal, Dortmund Confirm FIFA 19 Partnership
Update: After they lost the Borussia Dortmund licence to EA Sports' FIFA, Konami today announced a partnership with German Bundesliga club and BVB arch rivals Schalke 04. PES 2019 will include Schalke 04's official kits and stadium (VELTINS-Arena), including the famous Schalke 04 stadium tunnel.
Update: Following Konami's announcement earlier this week, Dortmund today confirmed they've indeed partnered up with EA Sports for FIFA 19.
— Borussia Dortmund (@BVB) 3. Juni 2018
In a shocking turn of events, Konami just released a statement announcing that Borussia Dortmund had exercised its unilateral option to cancel the sponsorship agreement prematurely.
Despite recently featuring in the PES 2019 announcement screenshots, Dortmund will in the end not feature in the game. The initial contract, which was closed only last year, would have run for two more years, until 2020.
"Borussia Dortmund was included in some of the promotional assets of “PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019”. Please note however that it can unfortunately not be included in the product." - KONAMI
Bad news for PES players almost always means good news for FIFA fanatics - in this case it's safe to expect that Dortmund's stadium will return to FIFA this fall after being absent from the series recently.
