The color of the new Adidas Manchester United 18-19 away jersey is believed to be a tribute to the Manchester Evening News "Football Pink" sports section that was available to United and Manchester City fans shortly after the final whistle on Saturday afternoon.

The news outlet was released shortly after Saturday's games, allowing fans to catch up on the latest results, news and match reports - the newspaper was printed on light pink paper. In 2000, the Saturday edition was switched to Sunday, before the section ultimately ceased publication in 2007.

In fact, Manchester United's home and third kits also pay homage to the club's history - Adidas had chosen dark blue as the colors of the club’s third strip to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Man Utd's first European Cup triumph, while the gradient on the home kit pays tribute to the club's beginnings as rail workers club.
