Western United FC - New Hyundai A-League Club Announced - Name, Colors & Kit Design

It was already known since some time that the A-League will get a new team from the 2019-20 season. Now the whole identity of the club has been announced, including the name and the colors.

The Western Melbourne Group was awarded a license for the 2019-20 A-League season on December 12 2018. It will be the competition’s 11th club.

Western United FC - Colors

The new A-League team will enter the 2019/20 Season as Western United Football Club. Their official colours will be a green and black playing strip.

The official name and colours were determined after community consultation and an online poll on the club’s website and also conducted by News Limited.

Western United FC won out over other options including Western Melbourne Athletic, Westside Pride and Western Melbourne Warriors.

Western United FC to Wear Green / Black Stripes

While the club’s jersey design has yet to be determined, it’s understood the club will wear green and black stripes, while the away kit will be white.

Western United FC CEO Maurice Bisetto said: "We enjoyed the process of involving the community and what emerged was a great story of nature and infrastructure. The blacktop of the bitumen with the greenery of our suburbs. It seemed like a perfect combination.

"With over 160 nationalities in our catchment area we needed to let the community and the environment speak to us. And the result is great. We are wanting to unite the football fans of the west under these colours and the world game brilliantly transcends all cultures and languages.

"Today really signals that we are no longer a consortium, a group or an ambitious idea. We are a football club. We are Western United FC."

The official Western United FC logo is yet to be designed.
