Hint at Puma Deal? Godín and Juanfran Say Goodbye to Atlético Wearing 1990s Kits

Legendary defenders Diego Godin and Juanfran played their final game for Atlético this past weekend. After the final whistle, the pair celebrated with the club's supporters in their corner of the Ciutat de Valencia stadium.

As spotted by Mundo Deportivo and CFS, they did so wearing a classic Atletico shirts produced by Puma, from 89-90 and 91-92, respectively; the shirts of course also include the 'old' crest that's so beloved amongst the red-and-white supporters. Juanfran also kissed the badge to show his love for the club he represented for the last eight seasons.

Earlier this year there were strong rumors linking Puma to Atlético. The story, which originated from 'OFOBALL', claimed that there had been several talks between Puma and the Spanish giants in order for the brand to take over from Nike in 2020.

It was not all words as OFOBALL were even able to show internal Puma documents that listed several product including home, away and third kits as well as their colors and release months. It was also stated that Puma were interested in returning to the previous badge, a move that would be more than welcome to the fans. However, Atletico were having none of it as per the latest update.

Although Juanfran wearing a Puma shirt, we don't think this was to tease the possible upcoming sponsorship deal and rather just a pure coincidence. Nonetheless, it once again got the Atletico fans talking about switching from Nike and returning to the old badge.
