Bayern Demands Money From BMW After Failed Sponsorship Talks
The Munich-based automobile giant BMW was supposed to become the new strategic partner of FC Bayern Munich. In May, however, the deal burst unexpectedly. According to a media report, the soccer club is now demanding damages.
The planned connection between BMW and Bayern München was about to be concluded and could also have led to a participation by BMW as the new shareholder of Bayern München AG. The talk was of a possible financial commitment of up to one billion Euro over many years. After 2025 at the latest, the car manufacturer could have joined the company, and then the advertising agreement with the long-standing FC Bayern partner Audi would have expired.
FC Bayern München Wants Between 10 And 20 Million Euro From BMW
According to a report in German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS), the German soccer record champion is now demanding damages in the tens of millions from the automobile manufacturer.
Neither the Bundesliga club nor BMW wanted to make a statement at the newspaper's request. The amount in question is said to be between 10 and 20 million Euro. The reason for the dispute is the accusation of a breach of trust after the highly remunerated sponsorship contract had broken down.
According to FC Bayern, the deal brought a claim suddenly made by BMW, which could not be fulfilled, to failure. At a meeting at the beginning of May, the Munich club managers Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß had brought this to the BMW representatives, including CEO Harald Krüger.
In a preliminary agreement signed by both parties, concrete sums have been fixed, writes Munich-based newspaper "tz". Individual departments of the football club had already been promised concrete sums from the contract, writes the "Bild" newspaper. FC Bayern Munich now wants money because of this.
