Eden Hazard Becomes Real Madrid's New No. 7 + All 19-20 Real Madrid Squad Number Changes Announced
With just a week left until the start of the 2019-2020 La Liga season, Real Madrid has announced the squad numbers for the upcoming campaign yesterday.
Eden Hazard Gets Real Madrid's No. 7 From Mariano Diaz
Eden Hazard will wear the prestigious number ‘7’ shirt, following in the footsteps of legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raúl and Raymond Kopa. Hazard will take the ‘7’ shirt from Mariano Diaz, who inherited the number from Cristiano Ronaldo and has to give it up after just one season at the Bernabéu.
Hazard has worn the number ‘50’ over the course of the pre-season, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
Luka Jovic has been given the number 18 shirt, while James Rodríguez have been handed a provisional number 16. James had the number 10 before he had left Real Madrid on loan to Bayern two years ago.
The Belgian striker, of course, wore the number 10 at Stamford Bridge and revealed back in June that he had jokingly asked Luka Modric if he could give him the ‘10’ shirt at the Bernabéu.
All squad numbers that have been assigned ahead of the LaLiga campaign are 'provisional', as some players may still be yet to leave and others could join the club before the close of the transfer market.
