Barça Next? Liverpool And Chelsea Suspend 1XBet Sponsorship Deal
Last week, we reported that Tottenham Hotspur had decided to terminate their betting sponsorship with Russian firm 1XBet. We already assumed that other EPL teams sponsored by 1XBet could follow, and now this has been confirmed.
One week after Spurs, Premier League clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have suspended all advertising with Russian-owned betting operator 1XBet.
The move follows advice from the UK Gambling Commission warning that the clubs risked fines and prosecution if they continued to promote 1XBet.
UK Gambling Commission Put Pressure On Clubs To Terminate Deal With 1XBet
Cyprus-based 1XBet had its licence suspended in the UK after reports that that brand was a platform for inappropriate betting markets.
According to the gambling business new website iGaming Business, the UK Gambling Commission informed the clubs that any promotion of 1xBET in the UK may be illegal, and could result in “unlimited fines and imprisonment sentence for up to 51 weeks”.
Other clubs worldwide who are sponsored by 1XBet, incuding FC Barcelona, have not yet terminated their contract yet.
