Placed directly in front of the iconic Monumento Nacional a la Bandera, Adidas laid out an enormous, 30-meter-long replica of Argentina's Albiceleste shirt across the plaza to celebrate the captain's historic international career.

The giant tribute mirrors the design of the special-edition farewell collection created for Messi's final match. Featuring Argentina's traditional light blue and white stripes with gold accents, the back prominently showcases his number 10, the Adidas performance emblem, the Messi signature logo, and the word "GRACIAS" across the shoulders. The installation was accompanied by lighting towers arranged for an audiovisual projection mapping show that celebrated key milestones from his time with La Albiceleste.

After two years, the reigning South American Champions badge officially makes its return to the Albiceleste jersey, following the end of Argentina’s reign as world champions.

The badge last appeared during 2024 Copa América. Since then, despite holding both Copa América and World Cup titles, Argentina consistently gave priority to the World Cup badge.

During recent UEFA Nations League training sessions, Spain was spotted using old training jerseys with one star removed and two additional stars printed above the logo. The imprint of the old star remains visible on the shirts.

This case is reminiscent of another interesting situation involving the Argentina futsal team at the 2021 Futsal World Cup. Despite being the defending champions, Argentina was not provided bespoke kits by Adidas and had to use standard jerseys, from which two stars were removed and replaced with one, as they had only won the Futsal World Cup once.
