Inter Memphis: What Inspired The Nike Inter Milan 20-21 Away Kit
The Nike Inter Milan 2020-21 away kit has been released. It got people talking because of its unusual design. The kit, however, is inspired by a classic renowned design group. Thanks to @rupertalbe for all the insights he published in an article for Bauscia Café.
Inter 20-21 Away Kit Design Originates From Milano Design Group Memphis Group
The grid concept of the Nike Internazionale 20-21 away kit was not invented by Nike but derives from the graphic background of the Memphis Group, designed by the Italian architecture collective called Memphis Group.
The Memphis Group architecture group (active 1980-1987) was founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1980. The Memphis Group designed Postmodern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and metal objects.
The whole Nike Inter 20-21 collection is inspired by the Memphis Group
Similar grid designs were used by some of the best-known names in fashion and design recently, including contemporary artist Nathalie Du Pasquier, Camille Walala and Burberry.
In fact, the whole Nike Inter 20-21 collection draws inspiration from the Memphis Group, including the home kit, pre-match jersey and other items.
