Global Football Shirt Trend: 100+ 2021-22 Kits With Pinstripes

Last season we paid close attention to the football kit market, and were able to identify a global trend of black / gold kits that even carried over to this season.

However, an even bigger trend emerged for the 2021-22 campaign which revolves around pinstripes. We put together over 100 individual football shirts of clubs and countries from all around the world that rely on this simple stylistic element.

This article was created in collaboration with Football Kit Archive. Check out over 35.000 old and new football shirts in the comfortable, easy to use database without duplicates.

Pinstripes are nothing new as a design element of football shirts. They first appeared in the 1980s when OG brands like adidas, Hummel and Umbro started to create unique kits for their most important assets. This was also the era when sports brands discovered the replica market.

In total, we found 105 recently released football shirts with pinstripes from all around the world. Interestingly, most of the jerseys are from football clubs and only a few football associations got the pinstripe treatment recently. This is mostly due to the fact that there are simply way more football clubs than football associations.

24 of 112 football kits with pinstripes are made by adidas

Another anomaly is how many adidas shirts are part of this overview. This is the case because the German sportswear brand has multiple miteam design options with different sorts of pinstripes. Many smaller teams use this customisation service.
